Inspiration
The intent for this piece was to play softly on the inspiring qualities of negative space, so often a component in Japanese art, where the viewer is allowed to become part of the production. Here, the cabinet is suspended above the base in such a manner as to leave the viewer wondering how they are connected. As it is seen initially, one knows there is something different. Soon, you realize that the cabinet is 'floating'. This makes it more interesting.
